The Essence Music Festival kicked off last night to a big bang and this is my first time checking out the festivities that take place in New Orleans, LA. Tonight, Usher closed out the show like only Usher can. With hits like ‘Confessions’ to ‘You Don’t Have To Call.’ The artist who is ready to ‘sign those papers’ shut the super dome down!

Last night was Usher‘s first time on the main stage at the annual concert in New Orleans and GlobalGrind caught up with Usher before he hit the stage and he told us:

“I’m honored to headline this prestigious musical festival. I’ve been here before but to now be able to kick this entire weekend off I’m really excited about it. All of the talent that comes through not even in America, [but  all of the talent that comes here from around the world], I’m just happy to be apart of this community of music and lifestyle art.”

Usher’s set was artistic and creative. He appeared from the middle of the Superdome, and his set was equip with lights and video montages that really set the mood for his entire show. One thing is for sure Usher knows how to put on a show.

We asked Usher if he prepares differently for a show like this and he revealed:

“For a predominantly female audience, yeah! This is the one that everybody wants to play. Concerts like this are only really done for artists like Teddy Pendergrass. You’d always hear about this, but this is reality and this is in the dome! To hear that type of response from a female audience, I’m really looking forward to this. I think I did like a 1000 crunches today, to try and make sure I was prepared for this, because the women want me to really do the thing.”

The show was a complete success and ended after 1 in the morning.  After the event the flocks of R&B lovers hit Bourbon Street and had a blast.
