With the notable absence of the NBA this season, pro bballers like Brandon Jennings have a lot of time on their hands. But, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Although he's only had one season playing professionally in the US before the lockout, Mr. Jennings is finding all the right ways to keep himself busy. With a trip to India and an Under Armour internship now under his belt, it seems like he's handling the lockout with ease. Check out all the deets below...
How would you describe the lockout briefly to someone that wanted to know what’s going on and what your demands are as players?
For me, it’s a new situation because I never had to deal with a lockout. The last lockout was in ’99 I think. For me, I’m just learning the business side of the game and I think I’m actually taking advantage of the time I have off. Just with positive things and also spending time with my family. But at the end of the day, I do wanna play basketball.
What types of things have you been doing with the new time you have?
I’ve been an intern at Under Armour this summer, so I’ve been working inside the Under Armour office designing shoes and giving my ideas. I’ve been playing a lot of flag football in the community. I've been all over the place. I went to India this summer and I’ve been on tour with Under Armour for basketball.
How was your trip to India?
I went to India for the Borders of Basketball with the NBA. It was before the lockout hit. So I was down there doing clinics for the NBA with the kids who were less fortunate and trying to make the game of basketball big over there. Because right now, cricket is the #1 sport over there. so if we could become #2, I think we’d be good.
So you ran drills with the kids and get them involved with the sport?
Yeah, ran drills, ran clinics in the hot sunny burning up out there. at the end of the day, it was all worth it. I was going into neighborhoods that we think are terrible, but their neighborhoods are probably worse or just as bad. I’m out there doing clinics and it’s like goats and chickens and everything running around out there. It was pretty cool.
It must’ve been a culture shock for you.
Yeah, a little bit. Not too much.
