If you haven’t noticed already, we’re really concerned with Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt’s disappearing act, so much so that we, like some other outlets, are trying to uncover the mystery and find him.

The 17-year-old Los Angeles-bred rapper has been MIA since the release of his solo effort “EARL,” which dropped March of last year. And, with the OFWGKTA crew’s growing success [see: Tyler the Creator’s new album “Goblin” capturing the attention of mainstream media and a sold-out show at New York’s Highline Ballroom], we can’t help but wonder when the MC will resurface.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), there’s a precedent for celebs going missing, especially in hip-pop, so there’s hope yet that we’ll see Earl again … soon.

Check out our lists of artists who’ve gone M.I.A on the next pages.

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill dropped her one and only solo release, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” to much acclaim in 1998, but shortly thereafter, the songstress continued to have children and disappeared. Nowadays, Hill seems to be a little bit closer to officially returning to the scene.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse was on top of her game as the leader of the British-Soul movement until her Grammy-winning song “Rehab” became a reality. We’re still waiting for Winehouse to resurface … in a positive light.

Dr. Dre

We’re still waiting for the rapper’s “Detox” album, which has been eight years in the making, but at least he’s not as elusive as he’s been in the past.

Eminem

While Dr. Dre was locked in the lab avoiding the public eye, Dre’s protege Eminem was on top of his game … until 2005 when Eminem disappeared due to a public battle with drugs.

Missy Elliott

In 1997, Missy single-handedly put female MCs back on the map, snapping awards for her debut and pegging herself as a go-to producer/songwriter of the time. Unfortunately, with six noteworthy albums under her belt, Missy stepped away from the game in 2006 and has been quietly working on a comeback ever since.
