During an interview at his OVO Festival in Toronto this past weekend, Drake was asked about his involvement in Aaliyah's new project.
"It's all off a new Aaliyah project me and 40 are commanding. 40 is doing some incredible music right now. To get 13 to 14 Aaliyah songs I mean everybody should be excited. It's not about me or about 40, it's about her and her fans and us just getting the opportunity to give you something we feel is great. The poeple around her, everybody from her family to her old management were just like 'If there's anybody who can do it right now it's me and 40."
"We're going to pull in some classic people, like anybody who used to work with Aaliyah or who was essential in her career we definitely hope to have them involved."
Last week, news broke that Drake was set to executive produce Aaliyah's new album. It was said that Timbaland would also be joining the project by producing at least two songs for the R&B singer's posthumous album.
If things weren't confusing enough, Aaliyah's brother posted a message on her Facebook stating that NO Aaliyah album was being made at this time.
But just when fans were beginning to give up hope, Blackground Records, run by Aaliyah's uncle Barry Hankerson, released a statement saying the project is going to happen.
Confusing, we know!
There have been varying reports about Aaliyah's project actually coming to fruition, but hopefully, fans will get some new Aaliyah music.
Do you feel better about Drake working on Aaliyah's new album if Timbaland and Missy Elliott are going to be involved?
