Black History Month is supposed to be about uplifting the black community, and instead, there’s drama.

LIST: P*ssy Monster! Lil Wayne’s P*ssy Obsession By The Numbers

After the release of Atlanta rapper Future’s “Karate Chop (Remix),” the family of the late Emmett Till is speaking out against Lil Wayne’s “beat the p*ssy up like Emmett Till” lyric.

Emmett Till was the victim of a heinous hate crime while visiting his family members in Mississippi in the mid-1950s after allegedly “flirting” with a white woman.

Days after his encounter with the white woman, a group of white men kidnapped a 14-year-old Emmett, beat him, gouged his eyes, and then shot him in the head before dumping his body in a river.

With the history of Emmett Till’s legacy, it was only a matter of time before a black leader of Emmett’s family spoke out against Wayne.

NEW MUSIC: Waka Flocka & Lil Wayne “Stay Hood”

Airickca Gordon-Taylor, the founding director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation and cousin of Emmett Till, spoke out against Lil Wayne’s lyrics:

“To compare his murder and how beaten and how bullied, and tortured he was to the anatomy of a woman was really very disrespectful. We found it dishonorable to his name and what his death has meant to us as a people and as a culture. It was offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to themselves as young, black men. I just couldn’t understand how you could compare the gateway of life to the brutality and punishment of death. And I feel as though they have no pride and no dignity as black men.”

Emmett’s cousin continues:

“Our family was very offended, very hurt. Disturbed by it…Our young people they emulate what they see, what they hear, and what they’re immersed in. And then we question them as they grow up and become citizens and they’re supposed to be productive in society and they’re not productive. And society is already criminalizing our young, black men at every opportunity they have. So it just really concerns us that here you are using Emmett Till’s name in such an egregious way and you’re not having any respect for yourselves as well as our family. And that’s the biggest concern. We’re concerned about our young people as well as the image of Emmett Till.”

Preach!

GlobalGrind totally agrees with Emmett Till’s family. Lil Wayne’s Emmett Till lyrics were in poor taste.

Atlanta rapper Future’s record label, Epic Records, has since apologized for the “obscene” lyric, but there hasn’t been an official word from Tunechi himself.

Epic Records is currently pulling the “Karate Chop” remix from the airwaves, and plans to re-release the song with new bars from Lil Wayne.
