Frank Ocean Says Coming Out Removed A "Boulder On My Chest" (DETAILS)

Posted July 20, 2012 by Brittany Lewis for Global Grind Staff

Frank Ocean's sexuality has been the topic of conversation for the past few weeks.

NEW MUSIC: Frank Ocean & Andre 3000 "Pink Matter"

After penning a letter about his sexuality on his Tumblr in the wee hours of the Fourth Of July, Frank Ocean admitted he finally feels free.

Revealing that his first love was with a man at the age of 19, Frank Ocean chit-chatted with the Guardian about his decision to come out.

When asked why he came out, Frank stated:

"....about my own sanity and my ability to feel like I'm living a life where … I'm happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin' boulder on my chest. I wished at 13 there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way."

When asked about the risks and reservations of coming out, Frank said:

"People are just afraid of things too much … Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American."

We're glad Frank had the courage to be honest with himself and the world.

Make sure you go buy Frank's debut album Channel Orange, available at a music retailer near you (except Target).
