Last year, when Amy Winehouse died, one of the first artists to honor the late, great singer was Green Day, who performed a song dedicated to the singer during a rousing live performance.

A year later and Green Day hasn’t forgotten about Amy.

During a interview with NME, the band revealed that they have a song dedicated to the singer.

The band has a trilogy of albums coming called ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! The last song on the second album, ¡Dos!, will be the dedication record.

Green Day lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, explained the song and why he wanted to put it on ¡Dos!:

“I didn’t know her, I just thought it was a real tragic loss. It’s interesting because if you think about ‘¡Dos!’, it’s a party record, and so at the end of it ‘Amy’ kind of comes across as the consequences of the party.”

Even though none of the Green Day members ever met Amy, they still felt a personal connection through her music:

“I just thought her music and her taste in music was so connected to old soul music and the original Motown and Otis Redding and Sam Cooke and things like that. And I think that was a major loss because that was a generation’s connection to that, and this was someone who should be here now and I just felt really sad.”

Green Day’s trilogy will be released within a four-month span. ¡Uno! drops on September 24; ¡Dos! releases on November 12; and ‘¡Tré!’ hits stores on January 14, 2013.
