It’s been nearly 12 years since Lauryn Hill dropped her masterful debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Since then, fans have been clamoring for a follow-up album, and besides releasing the disappointing MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 LP she has mostly left her fans dry.

Things could be changing, however, and it looks like Whitney Houston’s death last week might be the catalyst.

At the end of her Valentine’s evening concert at the Hollywood Palladium the other night the legendary rapper/singer stopped her concert and gave a short speech:

“Aren’t you tired of losing our people?…Love your artists. When they falter, hold them accountable. But love them. People are now showing Whitney Houston the love and respect she should have received throughout her career — through all of it…I’m in transition, still. Be patient with me. New is coming.”

By all accounts this was really the only time that Lauryn had any kind of banter with the crowd.

It almost seems like Lauryn sees the similarities in her and Whitney’s career, and she doesn’t want to be another casualty to fame.

All we have to say is we’ll be patient, Lauryn. But give us some kind of pay off!
