Lil Mama: "The Media Puts Me Into Arguments With Other People That Are Non-Existent"

Posted June 21, 2011 by Brittany Lewis for Global Grind Staff

Lil Mama has found herself in hot water lately, with alleged comments she made about Nicki Minaj biting her style in a previous interview, but that hasn't stopped the Brooklyn babe from making music.

Lil Mama hit the studio with Snoop Dogg to create her hometown repping track, "NY NY LA LA." Lil Mama isn't just a judge on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew," she is a driven, well-focused young lady.

Lil Mama took time out of her busy schedule to speak with GlobalGrind about collaborating with Snoop Dogg, her thoughts on Twitter beef, Lupe Fiasco's music and of course, her fans.

Check out the exclusive interview below!

GlobalGrind: “NY NY  LA LA” reps the East and the West, but you were born and raised in Brooklyn. How was it working with Snoop Dogg?

Lil Mama: It was definitely an honor, because growing up I listened to his music all the time. I used to be riding in the car with my dad and listening to Snoop. To actually get the chance to work with him and be respected by him and it feels so great.

You took a hiatus from the music scene once you got your start with MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” Where are you focused musically?

I’m just focused on the music, being Lil Mama, and putting me into the music. I’ve been having a lot of fun lately with my music. There’s no planned direction, it’s just fun and I’m putting it out there. That’s why I took the job with “America’s Best Dance Crew” because it’s not just some show where I’m “Judge Judy.” I’m not just a dance judge; I’m still incorporating dance and music in my judging job. It’s just been a great experience for me.

Who Is Lil Mama?

Lil Mama is a New York native born in Brooklyn. I’m ready for the world and I take things as they come. I embrace the rough groove and enjoy the smooth ride.
