What's life without art?

In Rick Ross' "3 Kings" featuring Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, Jay said:

"Banksy bitches, Basquiat."

If you listen to Hov meticulously, you know that's not the first time he's made reference to the latter - Jean-Michel Basquiat.

He's name-dropped Basquiat several times, but of course he's not the only one who's seen the neo-expressionist painter as a subject of intrigue. Artists left and right have painted a reference about the man who posthumously lives on through hip-hop music.

Even his fellow King, Rozay, had a hot little line:

"Red on the wall, Basquiat when I paint."

And just like Basquiat, his influencers Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso have basked in the limelight, so to speak, as well.

Most people might presume music artists, especially rappers, aren't acclimated with artists of that caliber just because they may not be considered high society per se. But clearly that's untrue due to Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and other like-minded individuals in the game.

In fact, Swizz Beatz is a huge art collector. As the Reebok Classics creative director, he even brought his devotion to art to the line - introducing Basquiat apparel and kicks, as well as a forthcoming Andy Warhol and Keith Haring collection. He also has references to Haring in his "Street Knocks" featuring A$AP Rocky music video.

If you're unfamiliar with Haring, he was an artist who did pop art and graffiti art in the '80s, and is linked to both Basquiat and Warhol. 

All and all, artists love artists, creatives inspire creatives. Because when it comes down to it, art is art, no matter what the package!
