And the debate continues!

DETAILS: When A Woman’s Fed Up! Petitoners Rally Against Rick Ross’ “U.O.E.N.” Rape Lyric

Over the weekend, “conscious” rapper Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli got into a heated, yet very intellectual debate on Twitter over rape culture and violence in hip-hop.

The debate stemmed from the outrage of Rick Ross’ reference to date rape on Atlanta rapper Rocko’s breakout hit “U.O.E.N.O.”

The lyric which sparked outrage reads as follows:

“Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it”

After receiving much criticism online and in the media, Rick Ross stopped by a radio station to clear his name and the “misunderstanding” about his rape reference.

Unfortunately for Rick Ross, his attempt at an apology wasn’t adequate for the damage already done.

Talib Kweli phoned in during Huffington Post Live series to speak about Rick Ross’ unapologetic apology, which for some reason didn’t sit well with outspoken feminist dream hampton.

Known for her close relationships with rappers, and her hand in the Nas ghostwriting allegations that sparked controversy this summer, dream hampton didn’t hold back any criticism toward Talib, which sparked a very long Twitter fight.

In no way, shape, or form did Talib Kweli condone Rick Ross’ rape lyric, instead, he challenged the “Rich Forever” rapper to deliver a “real” apology to women.

Is rape culture a problem in the hip-hop community or is rape culture a problem in America’s national community?
