R&B has been on a roll over the last two years or so.

From The Weeknd to Frank Ocean to Phlo Finister, new R&B singers seem to be intent on pushing the envelope.

Let’s add another name to that list: Tinashe.

Last month the 19-year-old pop singer dropped her debut solo mixtape, In Case We Die.

Before Tinashe was a solo act, dropping her very own projects, the Zimbabwean and Danish performer held various hats.

She was a model and a actress, appearing in movies and TV shows with the likes of Tom Hanks and Charlie Sheen. She then had a stint as the lead singer of the all-girl pop group The Stunners.

In 2011 she embarked on a solo career and started building her buzz up by doing covers of Lil Wayne’s “How To Love” and Rihanna’s smash “We Found Love.”

After releasing covers, she put out some of her own original music, this included “Artificial People” and “Chainless,” which she dropped a video for and which you can see above.

“Chainless” led up to the release of In Case We Die, which dropped in the beginning of February.

We gave the In Case We Die tape a solid listen, and we have to say, the project is dope as hell.

The tape reminds us of a poppier, slightly lighter version of the The Weeknd’s twisted synth-sound that his trilogy of free mixtapes were drenched with.

It’s good enough that we can recommend giving it a spin.

Stream some of the songs off the tape or give the tape a download at her website.
