Who exactly is The Weeknd

That is the question plaguing the minds of so many music lovers who’ve recently discovered the wailing echoes of this mysterious singer.

NEW VIDEO: The Weeknd “The Knowing”

The Weeknd isn’t the next big R&B group, and no The Weeknd isn’t a mysterious duo.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, is a 21-year-old R&B singer hailing from the Canadian city of Toronto. Of Ethiopian descent, The Weeknd rose to the forefront of music with the release of his highly acclaimed mixtape House Of Balloons.

Upon releasing House Of Balloons in its entirety, The Weeknd dropped “Loft Music,” “What You Need,” and “The Morning,” which was well-received by the public.

Confused as to who this mysterious singer was, many fans speculated on the man behind the balloons. It was months after his initial release of “Loft Music,” before fans even got a glimpse of his hidden shadow.

The Weeknd seemed camera shy, but it only added to the hype and mystery behind such an amazing body of work.

After releasing his second mixtape Thursday in August, which got mixed reviews, The Weeknd hit his fans with Echoes Of Silence late last night.

So what sets The Weeknd’s music apart from other R&B singers?

Well, quite frankly it’s the production and themes surrounding his music.

Drug-induced lyrics and stripper-inspired melodies encompassing the perils of relationships and the woes of a young bachelor, are all gracefully delivered by The Weeknd.

Boasting a delivery unlike anything our generation has ever heard, The Weeknd entraps his listeners minds with metaphoric stories riddled with hypnotic, and somewhat hallucinogenic melodies of ecstasy, figuratively and literally.

Lately, The Weeknd has been closely associated with YMCMB rapper Drake, who is also a fan of the mysterious singer.

Quotes like, “That OVO and that XO, your girlfriend at our next show” basically sums up the OVOXO movement brewing in the heart of T-town.

Many of his original fans are a little hesitant to completely embrace his alliance with Drake, citing the alliance may compromise The Weeknd’s creative integrity.

Since his alliance with Drake, The Weeknd’s buzz has become almost impossible to ignore.

So why should you be listening to The Weeknd?

Well, he’s perfect for everyone who enjoys music thoroughly and loves a good story, and damnit, The Weeknd has the best stories.

From kicking his plaguing drug habit to falling in love with someone everyone hates, The Weeknd covers it all.

Yes, he sings about drugs, sex, and of course he sings about strippers, but that’s only because strippers are magical. Making The Weeknd’s music magical as well.

The only suggestion we have to people who are just now discovering The Weeknd is … XO til you overdose.
