Stop the violence! A new study just dropped the most violent states in the U.S. and the list may or may not surprise you.

The new data was developed and gathered by the Institute for Economics and Peace, which tracks the level of peacefulness in American states.

The results of the experiment were based on five factors per 100,000 people living in the state. The five factors were homicide, violent crimes, jail, guns and law enforcement. The study measured how much safer a state became over a period of time and calculated the cost of crime per person.

So what are the ten most violent states in the country? We have the complete breakdown, take a look.
