NBC Chicago reports the shootings began on Friday, when Kevin Sanders, 33, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at 11:10 p.m. Sanders’ loss soon turned from tears to anger, as the second victim of the night was shot in an alleged retaliation by the residents of Sanders’ housing complex.

Chicago mourned that evening the loss of a friend, of a son, of a neighbor, but – before any funeral arrangements could be made or memories could be shared, nineteen-year-old Jonathan Santiago was murdered at 2:45 a.m, Saturday morning.

Hours later, nineteen-year-old Miguel Cancel was gunned down while sitting in his car. Two passengers were also injured, but survived. Larry Randle, 28, was fatally shot in the back and several others were wounded by gunfire just minutes apart from each other.

Lora Quarles, a resident near the shootings, told DNAinfo, “I never seen nothing like this in my life. I never grew up around this. We were just talking, not expecting shots to go off.”
