The effects of superstorm Hurricane Sandy will leave at least 30,000 to 40,000 people homeless, according to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo also said that with the temperatures dropping, “tens of thousands” of people will additionally be left homeless, saying “it’s going to become increasingly clear” that homes without heat are uninhabitable.
As reported by the Associated Press:
Cuomo said that means “tens of thousands” of people whose homes were damaged by the superstorm will need other places to live.
“It’s going to become increasingly clear” that homes without heat are uninhabitable, the governor said. He said residents who have been reluctant to leave their homes will be forced to and will need housing.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said 30,000-40,000 people in the city could need housing help.
