The Chicago Tribune reported Aliyah was the only one shot and was sent to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition. Moments later doctors declared her dead.

One neighbor, identified as Rey Navarro, said he and his mother Clara witnessed the entire incident. Rey, who described Aliyah as trying to enter her house before collapsing, spoke on the incident saying:

“I didn’t think she was shot. I saw her take a breath, she moved a little bit, then she collapsed onto the stairs. “Our little angel, our little angel. I guess the Lord needed her.”

Principal Cristina Ramos of the nearby elementary school McCormick also expressed her devastation saying:

“You wonder, do you want to walk down the sidewalk with your child to get an ice cream cone? This could be your own 6-year-old sister, your own child. This is an innocent child that didn’t deserve to have this happen.”

Shortly after the incident Ogden District police officers found a vehicle that matched the description given to them by witnesses and made an arrest of two males.

The two men were carrying a weapon and authorities say that were affiliated with the Latin Kings gang.

This is completely heartbreaking and devastating. Our condolences go to the family of Aliyah.
