Army chief nurse Bruce Clark died unexpectedly while in a Skype video chat with his wife last Monday.

STORY: Osama Bin Laden’s Last Words Revealed

According to the Associated Press, 43-year old Michigan native Bruce was having a routine chat with his wife and suddenly passed out and died right before her eyes.

His family released a statement which read:

“At the time of the incident, the family was hoping for a rescue and miracle, but later learned that it was not to be. Although the circumstances were unimaginable, Bruce’s wife and extended family will be forever thankful that he and his wife were together in his last moments. When you were in Bruce’s presence it was apparent he served a higher purpose. He was deeply honored to serve his country, and he paid the ultimate sacrifice to serve people, his children, family, community, and church.”

Military authorities are still unaware of the causes of his death and the Pentagon has initiated an investigation.

Bruce, recognized by his coworker nurse Ellie Villanueva as someone who was “always willing to better himself” joined the military in 2006 and was stationed in Afghanistan.

Prior to joining the military Bruce worked at the Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York as an operating room technician.

He will be buried in Spencerport, New Jersey where his wife Susan and 2 daughters age 3 and 9 reside.

Our condolences go out to the family of Bruce.
