On the day that most of us take time out of our busy schedule to celebrate the bravery, strength, and righteousness of the fathers to our youth, I would like to send out a very heartfelt f*ck you to all of the deadbeat fathers who further diminish the value and beauty of our society and culture with each and every breath they take.
There are a plethora of words I can use to describe you, few of which I doubt you would be able to comprehend. So I’ll put this as in a way you’ll be able to understand. Outside of your physiological appearance the word man should never be used to describe you, and people who respect you as a man lose respect. And you shame your parents with your very existence.
If you make a concerted effort to be apart of your child’s life but are not able to, I am not talking about you. All of you fathers who ran away from the responsibilities of raising a child. All of you fathers who left a woman who had to carry the work load of two people making her work two or three jobs only to come home to do one of the most difficult jobs on the planet. All of you fathers who left your children to grow up without a man to teach your son how to become one. I am talking to you.
There is absolutely no excuse from running away from the responsibility of parenthood. If you were raised properly you would understand that once another life is created it becomes your obligation to ensure that that child has the best possible chance at success in life. Which in the long run becomes an investment, who will take care of you when you no longer have the ability to take care of your self.
When you leave that child life you significantly decrease their chances of accomplishing their goals and dreams because there is no man there to build the character necessary to achieve success.
Fatherless children are at a dramatically greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, suicide, poor educational performance, teen pregnancy, and criminality. You are also putting them at a greater risk for psychological impairment. In 1988, a study of preschool children admitted to New Orleans hospitals as psychiatric patients over a 34-month period found that nearly 80 percent came from fatherless homes.
You may be able to run away from your children but we can’t. These children are more likely to go out and become a detriment to our communities. A lot of these young men you see displaying sociopathic behavior do so because they were not taught how to love properly. If they were from a single parent house hold that’s because one parent wasn’t there, and one parent didn’t have the time to be there because she was too busy busting her ass to support them.
So we are the one’s left with the burdens of your bastard child not you. So don’t you dare have the audacity to ask me why I call you a bitch? We have a generation of young brothers killing each other and you are part of the reason why they are.
On this father’s day we should take time out to recognize real fathers for teaching young men how to become grown men. We should also appreciate those single mothers who are trying their best to work hard to support and raise a child by themselves. I know it’s hard, but you deserve all the respect the world has to offer.
If I offended you in any way ask yourself. “Am I doing as much as I can to be apart of my child’s life?” If the answer is yes then I’m not talking about you, but if the answer is no remember one thing I’m attacking who you are not who you could be. It is never to late to be apart of your child’s life. It just gets harder the older he gets.
Remember to take time to remember fathers going through this....
Garvey Ashhurst is a young up and coming poet, song writer, and blogger. He is the reason that the system is afraid of a black man in a library. His aim is not to be Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, or Ghandi, but he hopes to make them proud by keeping their ideals alive through his lifestyle. He hopes that one day young brothers will say "I want to be the next him."
