Alaysha Carradine was doing what most 8-year-olds love to do on their summer break – having a sleepover with friends. But no one could predict the tragic aftermath of the events that unfolded that night.

Alaysha was shot to death and two of her friends, Amara York, 7, and her 4-year-old brother, were wounded when a gunman opened fire on the house they were in on Wednesday night.

York’s 63-year-old grandmother was also shot, but her injuries are non-life threatening.

Another person in the house, 22-year-old Khamel Hardin, was upstairs at the time of the attack. He was unharmed.

According to the Daily Mail, the attack occurred after York ran to answer the doorbell, thinking that it was her mother. She was greeted with open fire as bullets riddled the door. Miraculously, she survived the attack.

But her friend Alaysha, the little girl who loved school, reading and modeling and was staying at the home because her mother was away on vacation in Washington, D.C., was taken away from this Earth in a senseless act of violence.

Officials have not named any suspects, but have announced a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

We send our prayers and condolences to Alaysha’s family at this time.
