UPDATE 7/26/13 1:30PM EST

TMZ reports:

The parents of Amanda Bynes believe she’s a substance abuser who has become paranoid, delusional is draining her bank account … this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

Amanda’s parents filed papers in an attempt to win a temporary conservatorship.  In the docs, they say Amanda has become “extremely paranoid about being watched,” and she covers smoke alarms with towels and tapes windows shut to prevent cameras from shooting her.

The parents go on — Amanda has “profound issues with her body image” and is “obsessed with the fact that she (and others) are ugly.”

The parents say Amanda had $4 million in the bank, but is blowing a huge amount of cash — she spent $1.2 mil in a very short amount of time.  Amanda withdrew $100k on June 4 and another $100k on July 2 and the parents have no idea where the money went, but they mention they believe she spends “a substantial amount” for marijuana and other illegal substances.

The parents say Amanda doesn’t connect with reality, telling them she “cabbed it” from New York to L.A.  The parents believe she’s homeless.

The documents described what TMZ first reported … that the parents are hanging their hats on the driveway fire incident to show Amanda is a danger to herself and others.

The court denied the petition for a temporary conservatorship Friday morning, because the judge wanted more info.

TMZ broke the story … doctors suspect Amanda is schizophrenic.

A judge has ruled that Amanda Bynes’ 72-hour stint on psychiatric hold will be extended to two weeks.

The troubled starlet has been involuntarily held in a Southern California hospital for psychiatric evaluation following an incident in Thousand Oaks, California. Mandy started a gas fire in the driveway of a stranger. The first person to find Amanda said she was lying next to the fire and had stripped off her pants after burning them. Bynes also claimed her new four legged friend was hurt by the blaze.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old’s mother Lynn Bynes filed a sealed court petition July 25 that requests she gain emergency control of Amanda’s personal business and affairs.

The judge is expected to hold a closed-door hearing with Bynes’ mother this morning to review the request for temporary conservatorship, a source told the Daily News.

Although Amanda and her father are estranged, he has been seen visiting the hospital where the former actress is staying. He has reportedly agreed to stay out of any legal matters involving his daughter.

“They’re very worried about Amanda,” a source close to the situation said. “The petition seems to give no indication Amanda is suffering from schizophrenia. It’s more inconclusive. The doctors need more time.”

“Rick will be there for his daughter, no matter what,” a source told RadarOnline. “They just want her to get the help she needs, and recognize that it could be a long process. She’s their daughter, and they are committed to getting her better.”

While it is clear Amanda needs help, experts are not sure the request is a home run.

“A civil conservatorship is a pretty severe assault on one’s liberties, so it has to be justified by a finding of total incapacity in terms of managing one’s own affairs,” Ventura County estate lawyer Cristian Arrieta said.

“If she objects and then makes a good appearance at court and the judge decides she’s taking her meds, this could be very difficult,” he said.

Another attorney who is not involved in the case believes it’s quite the opposite, however.

“The fire incident alone isn’t enough, but coupled with her history of bizarre behavior, I wouldn’t be surprised if her parents are granted temporary control, pending future hearings,” says Jeffrey S. Cohen.

Bynes was reportedly lucid for 10 hours Wednesday, but “shut down” after discovering that her dog is now in the care of her parents. Sources tell TMZ Amanda began grilling the staff about her dog and then said, “they’ll kill it, just like they tried to kill me” before returning to an incoherent state and requiring restraints.

We hope Amanda finally gets the help she needs and can move forward to a happy and healthy life.
