One year after the Japan earthquake and tsunami, the pain of loss still runs deep even after re-building efforts have re-created a once destroyed country.
The March 11, 2011, tsunami took away loved ones, jobs and the means to make a living. The population after the tsunami shrunk by 2,200 to 15,419, between the 857 who died in the tsunami and those who have moved away to look for work.
Many fear it will contract further. The number of people collecting unemployment insurance has shot up 34 percent in the three regions hit worst by the disaster.
But the re-building effort has brought new hope to a community hit by one of the worst tsunamis on record.
Watch the before and after transformation one year later. It truly shows that when people come together after such a tragic event and work hard, great things can happen.
Take a look as Japan gets transformed into a collection of before and after pictures of the tsunami.
