It’s been a few days since George Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Jr., sent out a tweet comparing an alleged baby killer with slain teen Trayvon Martin, and now, family attorneys Benjamin Crump and Natalie Jackson are coming forward to comment on Zimmerman’s latest antics.

VIDEO: Now You’re Sorry? Robert Zimmerman Apologizes For Controversial Trayvon Martin Tweet

Zimmerman, who tweeted out a side-by-side of Trayvon and 17-year-old De’Marquis Elkins holding up their middle fingers, said that he was trying to make a point to the media about their portrayal of Trayvon, which he believes is false.

He followed up his apology with this statement:

“The analogy is these are two people who chose to represent themselves in this way. One was accused of killing a baby, and whatever’s in his social media makes the rounds immediately … However, the other person who almost killed my brother had he disarmed him — my brother had every indication to believe he would have killed him — his social media is off limits.”

Now, Crump is speaking on behalf of Trayvon’s family:

Robert Zimmerman Jr. has apologized for his tweets that he sent out and admits that he made a mistake.  He, as a 30 something year old man, believes that his tweets were interpreted incorrectly by the majority of the people.   He asks that you don’t judge him for his tweets, but does insist that you judge the tweets and social media of a 17 year old dead minor as concrete evidence.  He was able to come and try to explain why he tweeted out certain things.  Tragically, Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman and can’t explain allege tweets or social media that is being attributed to him.

In what seemed to be an attempt to explain Robert Zimmerman’s tweets, George Zimmerman’s Attorney Mark O’mara stated on the record that you can’t know a person’s heart by reading a person’s tweets.  On that point, he and I agree.  That’s why it is ludicrous for Omara or anyone else to think that any alleged negative social media post or photo of Trayvon is relevant to this case.  Because as O’mara said, you can’t know a person’s heart by his tweets, but even more to the point, it is not relevant because George Zimmerman didn’t know anything personal about Trayvon or his “social media persona” when he took it upon himself to get out of his vehicle, pursue, confront and killed Trayvon Martin.

Lastly, we put this in the proper context why we are even commenting on Robert Zimmerman’s tweets at this time because we initially refused to comment on them because we didn’t even feel that they merited a response.  However, after considering what was said in the text of the tweets, it became clear that they may become relevant in this case.  Not to prove whether someone is racist or not, because being a racist is not illegal.  The reason we are discussing the tweets of Robert Zimmerman is because they bolster the testimony of a potential witness in the case and that is Witness #9.  Witness #9 is the first cousin of George Zimmerman who called the Sanford Police Department within the first 72 hours after Trayvon was killed and told them that “she knows George.  That he is very confrontational and that he doesn’t like Black people.  She said he would be the kind of person who would start something.  It is in his Blood.  She said the none of his immediately family liked Black people, his brother, sister, mother, nor father.”  Now you examine these tweets from Robert Zimmenman, Jr. who said he speaks for his family.  His tweets does not just speak to Trayvon Martin, but to all Blacks when he said, “The liberal media should ask if what these two Black teens did to a woman and a baby is the reason people think Blacks might be risky.”  This potentially could be a compelling issue that comes before the jury on as to why George Zimmerman profiled and pursued Trayvon Martin if Zimmerman attempts to attack his cousin’s credibility.”
