The security was heightened, spirits were dampened, and the tragedy of Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings still hung in the air.

But Boston, being the city that it is, showed their resilience and unity once again.

At the first sporting event held in the city since the deadly bombings, the crowd at the Boston Bruins vs. Sabres game took over the National Anthem in a tear-jerking moment.

Singer Rene Rancourt began “The Star Spangled Banner,” but he was stopped short when thousands of fans joined in. He lowered his mic to let the crowd have that emotional moment that signified that Boston, despite its recent tragedy, would not falter in the face of terror.
