UPDATE: 4-21-13 1:37PM EST

Despite concerns raised by the recent bombings at the Boston Marathon, the London marathon prevailed today and thousands of runners offered tributes to those killed and injured in the tragedy that took place last Monday.

The race began after a moment of silence for the victims, and many wore black armbands as a sign of solidarity. Two runners finished carrying a banner that read “For Boston.”
Valerie Bloomfield, a 40-year-old participant from France said:

“It means that runners are stronger than bombers,”

London’s is the first major international marathon since the two bombs exploded near the finish line in Boston killing three.

Officials are confirming that Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, has been caught.

A barrage of gunshots was heard fired in Watertown at about 7 p.m., followed by a flurry of police cars. Police closed in on Tsarnaev, who was reportedly hiding in a boat in the backyard of a Franklin Street home. Officials say police used flash bangs to disorient the suspect.

At 8:45 p.m. Tsarnaev was found, reportedly hurt but alive, hiding under the boats tarp. After he was taken into custody, the crowd, including reporters, residents and law enforcement, erupted in cheers.

Story developing.
