Ahmed Dogan, the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms has dodged a serious attack!

The Turkey party leader was speaking at a podium during a party caucus in the capital while 25-year-old Oktai Enimehmedov charged to the stage with a gun and pointed inches away from Dogan’s face.

No shots were fired however according to reports the weapon is known as a gas gun and used for self defense, is not lethal but can cause serious injuries if fired at close range

Oktai was also carrying two knives.

Looking closely at the footage it appears the gun may have jammed and the attacker is quickly swarmed by guards, taken down and then kicked by those nearby.

Bulgarian police have detained the attacker and took him to a hospital. It wasn’t immediately clear if he sustained serious injuries, or how he even got past security to enter the hall with nearly 3000 people attending.

The conference had to elect a new leader to succeed Dogan, who is one of the Balkan country’s most influential political figures. The 58-year-old has been at the helm of the party since founding it in 1990.

Saturday’s assault was the gravest attack on a politician in post-communist Bulgaria after the 1996 killing of ex-prime Minister Andrei Lukanov.

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt or killed in the incident. Check out the jaw dropping footage above!
