Nicki Minaj’s demonic, exorcist-laced Grammy performance was the talk of Twitter yesterday and grabbed the attention of everyone – including the Catholic Church.

STORY: Grammys 2012: Nicki Minaj Debuts “Roman Holiday”

First, Nicki stunned everyone on the red carpet upon her arrival, when she appeared wearing a crimson robe accompanied by a man dressed like the pope – complete with miter, the traditional head-dress of the Pope in the Roman Catholic Church.

STORY: Grammys 2012: Nicki Minaj Gets Religious On The Red Carpet

Nicki’s performance was shocking and jaw dropping to say the least; part stage show, part short film reminiscent of the classic horror flick The Exorcist; with Nicki cast as a person possessed.

When the film shuts off, we see Nicki on stage rapping while strapped to some kind restraining device while fire, ice, altar boys and the Pope come on stage acting out the performance.

Nicki definitely stole the show because everyone’s talking about her; however the Catholic Church isn’t jumping on the bandwagon.

The Catholic League was not amused by her performance. Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League said after watching Nicki’s performance:

“Perhaps the most vulgar was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer.

None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys.

Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy.

Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”

Donohue continued:

“It’s bad enough that Catholics have to fight for their rights vis-a-vis a hostile administration in Washington also having to fend off attacks in the entertainment industry.”

Donohue was referring to the recent fight between Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan and President Barack Obama clashing over a health care policy requiring religious-backed institutions to cover the costs of birth control for their employees.

It hasn’t been a good week for the Catholic Church and Nicki’s performance last night didn’t help portray the Church in a positive light.

Not only did she piss off the Catholic Church with her performance, if the religious zealots clamp onto her story, Nicki will surely be in a mountain of trouble.
