More than 1,000 supporters flocked to Trayvon Martin's hometown of Miami's Bayfront Park Sunday and rallied like never before, spirited protesters marching for justice.
STORY: Family Moments! The Final Days Of Trayvon Martin
Soul singer Betty Wright was joined by Chaka Khan as she belted out a rousing gospel tune dedicated to Trayvon, while former Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning joined the scene on stage at the park's amphitheater.
Miami-Dade County one-time cop and Police Director Bobby Parker took to the podium to blast the Sanford Police Department's investigation into neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman, who he said, "has a dark heart."
Parker shouted to the crowd:
"This is the time to become energized. This is the time to take action. Trayvon Martin gave his life for this cause!"
On stage and in the crowd supporters on Sunday voiced their belief that Zimmerman should be arrested for Trayvon's death.
The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been one of the leading voices for Trayvon's family, pointed to an Orlando Sentinel report quoting forensic audio experts who say the screaming voice on the 911 call was not Zimmerman's.
The Rev. shouted to the crowd:
"Zimmerman, tell it to the judge. Your daddy said this, your brother said that, your friend said the other. Line 'em up and tell it to the judge!"
Sharpton was joined on stage by Trayvon's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, their attorney, Benjamin Crump, and the event's host, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami.
Trayvon’s mother told the crowd of supporters:
"Though I may cry, I believe Trayvon is proud of us as parents and proud of you as supporters."
Even under the heat, some young men donned hoodies in honor of Trayvon.
The more we rally and march, the quicker justice will come for Trayvon Martin. #HoodiesUp
