Prosecutors are asking Judge Kenneth Lester to seal all key pieces of evidence related to the case against George Zimmerman from the public until trial. This includes the statements he made to Sanford Police during the initial investigation of Trayvon Martin's death.

In a new motion citing a statutory exemption barring the release of confessions, the prosecution is asking Lester to seal Zimmerman's statements, as well as the crime scene and autopsy photos in the case.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda, the lead prosecutor, writes in the motion that some of Zimmerman's statements:

"are contradictory, and are inconsistent with the physical evidence and statements of witnesses."

De la Rionda argues that because those statements "could be used against him at trial," the records should not be public.

The prosecutor also asked that the state seal Zimmerman's cell phone records. 

Also listed are "tests" performed by police on Zimmerman that de la Rionda argues may not ultimately be admissible, and a statement given by one witness who made reference to Zimmerman having a "bias against black persons."

Witness names are asked to be sealed by the state and both the prosecution and the defense have argued for that, saying that publicly identifying witnesses could deter them from testifying in the controversial case.
