“Don’t let the memory of Newtown fade.”

That’s the lasting and heartbreaking message from a new ad featuring the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School students and teachers.

The ad, sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, was released on Thursday, which is officially “National Day To Demand Action” for gun-control. In it, a broken Neil Heslin, who has been extremely vocal about his son Jesse’s death, speaks out about the last time he saw his son alive.

Other family members include Chris and Lynn McDonnell, who lost their daughter Grace, and the sister of hero Victoria Soto, who barricaded a closet full of children with her own body to save them.

“I want to prevent any other family from having to go through what we’re going through,” Chris McDonnell says in the ad.

The video comes just as President Barack Obama is gearing up to pass gun legislation next month. Speaking in front of a crowd of mothers who lost their children to gun violence, President Obama urged America to never forget the Newtown tragedy.

“Less than 100 days ago that happened, and the entire country was shocked and the entire country pledged we would do something about it and this time would be different,” Mr. Obama said, his voice rising with indignation. “Shame on us if we’ve forgotten. I haven’t forgotten those kids. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten.”

We haven’t forgotten, and as always, our thoughts and prayers to the town of Newtown and all victims of gun violence around the country.
