Sad news out of Inglewood, California where a young father was gunned down in his own home while protecting his 8-year-old son.

Fred Martin Jr., 28, was shot and killed as he was cleaning out his garage at his Inglewood home when two unknown men stormed in and began shooting.

Martin jumped to protect his son Tre and was shot in the chest and stomach as he pushed the boy to the ground and covered him while the assailants ran off.

According to police, no arrests have been made.

Martin was rushed to the hospital but died during surgery. His son was grazed by a bullet but was not seriously hurt.

The gunfire broke out in the 3200 block of West 109th Street on Tuesday. A website has been setup to raise donations for Martin's children.

According to the website, his wife Amanda Grant, to whom he had been married 11 months, is pregnant with their first child.

The website set up for his children, called Mac Martin's Kid's Fund, aims to raise $25,000. So far it has raised nearly $1,000.
