Heavy D knew something wasn’t quite right when he visited the doctor just a day before his death.
According to the New York Daily News, Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, Ed Winter said:
“He had gone to the doctor the day before; he had what appeared to be like flu-like symptoms. He was taking medication, so we want to see what the levels were.”
Investigators completed an autopsy Wednesday morning, but declined to release a preliminary cause of death, saying that toxicology tests must first be performed. The tests could take up to six weeks to complete.
Heavy D’s cousin Ruddy Phillips said:
“He said he had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from traveling. He just got back from England."
Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was taken by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Tuesday morning where he died 90 minutes later.
His death came as a shock to the hip-hop generation when the news broke of his passing. He will truly be missed.
