In 2010, tragedy struck as billionaire Thomas J. Stewart got into a deadly helicopter crash that killed him and his family, including 5-year-old Sydney Stewart.

According to The National Transportation Safety Board, the crash might have occurred because co-pilot Stewart allowed Sydney to sit on his lap while he was flying the air craft.

Reports believe that Sydney was able to kick her foot and hit certain flight controls while sitting on Stewart’s lap that could have caused the crash.

The Daily News reports:

It was “highly likely” that the child suddenly pushed down with her foot on the copter’s controls, according to the Nov. 7 report. Either Stewart or his pilot then quickly pulled up on the controls, causing the helicopter’s main blades to bend and strike the aircraft’s tail, the report said.

The helicopter then plunged out of control into a dry stream bed in the north Phoenix community of Cave Creek, killing all aboard instantly, according to investigators.

Madena Stewart, 40, her brother, Malang Abudula, 38, and company pilot Rick Morton, 63, were also killed in the crash

According to investigators, Stewart could have tried to quickly fix the controls.

This is certainly a sad story, and we pray for the family and friends of the Stewart family.
