CA representatives are unwilling to take a stand on SB 9 even though 45% of youth offenders serving life without parole sentences were convicted of murder but were not the ones to actually commit the crime?
So with the lives of thousands of youth at stake, hundreds of murder victim family members and family members with children in prison have been meeting with legislators explaining why they support SB 9.
For months they have been sharing their personal stories and urging their representatives to support fair sentencing for youth.
As a result, last Thursday, SB9 went to the Assembly floor and received 40 votes, ONE vote short of what is needed to pass the bill.
So with one vote deciding the future of hundreds of young people, I ask ourselves is it right for us to decide that a child, even those serving life without parole sentences, are not worthy enough to be given a chance to change?
