As tear gas was being pumped into a mountain cabin during the deadly gun battle, authorities say fugitive and former cop, Christopher Dorner died of a single gun shot wound to the head.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s Captain John McMahon told reporters that the wound appeared to be self inflicted and now photos show the burned down cabin and the cellar where his body was found.

Before Dorner died he killed one sheriff’s deputy and wounded another during an off the wall shoot out.

ABC News reports:

Authorities said police made “numerous PA announcements identifying [Dorner] by name, asking him to surrender,” before firing pyrotechnic tear gas inside the cabin Dorner had holed up in, causing the building to go up in flames.

“We did not intentionally burn down that cabin to get Mr. Dorner out,” San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon told reporters on Feb. 13.
