It is being reported that Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss passed away on Monday morning from complications stemming from cancer.

After it was announced late last week that Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss was in the hospital dealing with cancer, Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times is now reporting that one of the greatest owners in the history of pro sports has passed away.

Buss started his career as a chemist but eventually transitioned into real estate, buying properties in Los Angeles before moving to the sports world.

In 1979, Buss made history when he purchased the Lakers, the L.A. Kings and The Forum for $67.5 million, which was the largest transaction in sports at the time.

Buss’ legacy included 10 NBA championships won as owner of the Lakers franchise. A 2010 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee, Buss also won two championships as the owner of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.

Details surrounding his death have not yet been released. May he rest in peace.
