Just days after being hospitalized due to an unknown ailment, officials have confirmed that former South African president, Nelson Mandela, is suffering from a lung infection.
A statement from President Jacob Zuma's office said that doctors were treating Mandela and he was responding to that treatment. Just yesterday, Zuma reported that he found Mandela "comfortable and in good care" after a recent visit. But conflicting reports about the nature of his condition were also released, with a source close to the family saying that he was not able to speak.
Grace Machel, Mandela's wife, told eNews Central Africa that it is painful to see her husband's "spirit and sparkle waning."
"I mean, this spirit and this sparkle, you see that somehow it's fading," she told eNews Central Africa. "To see him aging, it's something also which pains you. You understand and you know it has to happen," she said.
Mandela, 94, is said to have a reoccurring lung infection; we are praying for a speedy recovery! No further details have been released on his condition as of yet.
