After being rushed to the hospital last week, Nelson Mandela has been reported to be in serious, but stable condition.

According to CBS, things might be more serious than that since a source revealed to them that the 94-year-old former African leader is unresponsive and hasn’t opened his eyes in days.

The site reports:

Sources tell us that Mandela’s liver and kidneys are functioning at 50 percent, and he had a procedure to repair a bleeding ulcer and another one to insert a tube.

We’re told he hasn’t opened his eyes in days and is unresponsive. We also understand that Mandela family members are discussing just how much medical intervention is enough for an old and very sick man.

It also turns out that on his way to the hospital, the ambulance Mandela was being carried in broke down with an engine problem.

According to the Associated Press, the ambulance was having trouble while Mandela was being treated inside on his way for medical treatment, but thankfully it didn’t effect his health.

The site reports:

The government confirmed reports about transport problems when the former leader was taken to the hospital for what officials have said is a recurring lung infection. CBS News reported that Mandela had to be transferred in wintertime temperatures to another ambulance in the early morning of June 8 after waiting on the side of the highway for 40 minutes.

The government said in a statement that doctors are satisfied that the Nobel Peace Prize laureate suffered “no harm” at the time.

We pray for Nelson Mandela and hope he makes a speedy recovery!
