Colby Ellis showed just how much of a daredevil he is, when he climbed mountain timbers in North Carolina. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old’s task did not end successfully or safely.

At about 5 feet up, Colby claims one of the vines he grappled gave way, causing him to slip, News 24 reported. As he positioned himself to embrace the fall, Colby’s face went directly into a branch, puncturing skin directly under his left eyebrow and part of his eyeball.
He spoke of the daring incident, saying:
“A co-worker, Micah Loyd, and I had the day off and decided to go explore the mountain. I spotted a series of vines going up a tree and decided to climb them. When I was about five feet up, the vine gave way. I landed on my feet but when I bent to absorb the landing, a branch punctured my face.”
With all the danger involved, Colby and Micah, who are both trained in first aid, remained calm. Colby spoke on not panicking, saying, “getting worked up would only raise my blood pressure and cause more bleeding, so I tried to just focus on my breathing.”
Avoiding the expensive medical costs, the two agreed not to call an ambulance and instead, drove to the nearest hospital in Bryson, North Carolina. Medical staff then transported Colby in an ambulance to a hospital in Asheville, where a trauma center was located. Doctors were able to remove the sticks and all that was needed for Colby were a few stitches and an eye patch.
Colby reflected on the whole experience:
“All in all, I feel very fortunate to be able to see out of both eyes and to be alive. If I had fallen an inch behind me the bigger branch could have easily went through my socket and into my brain. It also confirms that life is short, so treasure everyday because you never know if it will be your last. The whole thing was really intense.”
We are glad Colby is in a recovering condition. If there is one lesson we can learn from this, it’s that the art of being a jackass is not for everyone!
