Just a day after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the National Rifle Association (NRA) deactivated their Facebook page.

DETAILS: Enough Is Enough! Politicians Demand Gun Control Talks NOW!

In the only action taken since the December 14 shooting, the NRA took down the page that boasted 1.7 million likes on Facebook. The organization has not posted anything on their Twitter feed as well.

One social media marketing expert told Fast Company that the Facebook page shut down was a mistake:

According to Likeable Media CEO and Likeable Business author Dave Kerpen, the NRA should have kept the page online and “welcomed the conversation… as difficult as it may be. No message sometimes is a message.”

The NRA has not yet issued a public statement amidst criticism about gun-control regulations or California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s call for a ban on assault rifles. Just this weekend, 31 pro-gun rights senators declined to comment on the gun-control discussion on Meet the Press.

As of this morning, visitors to the NRA’s webpage have received a “please provide valid message” error when seeking to contact the organization.

We wonder what this means for the historically “invincible” organization.
