As GlobalGrind reported yesterday, New York Daily News Op-Ed writer Harry Siegel made explosive claims that the NYPD has been encouraging unsavory characters to infiltrate the peaceful Occupy Wall Street demonstrators at Zuccotti Park. Today, the NYPD denied any such claims.

Police denied a report by Siegel that suggested officers have been directing homeless people to Zuccotti Park when they are caught drinking in other areas of the city.

The NYPD’s press office declined to comment on the record about any such practice by officers.

But Paul Browne, chief spokesman for the NYPD said in a statement on vagrants rolling down to Zuccotti Park:

“That’s not to say that individuals without permanent residences are not attracted there on their own.”

In our poll posted yesterday, 97 percent of our audience believes that the NYPD would use such a tactic to disturb the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators.
