UPDATE: 1:45 PM EST

Police have identified the gunman and his victims in yesterday’s Clackamas Town Center shooting.

Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22, used a stolen AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and several fully loaded magazines in his rampage that killed two people, before he turned the gun on himself.

Clackamas Country Sheriff Craig Roberts said that the rifle jammed during the attack, but he managed to get it working again.

Two people — a 54-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man — were killed, and another, Kristina Shevchenko, whose age could not be confirmed, was wounded and in serious condition on Wednesday.

This story is developing.

While over 10,000 people shopped at the Portland, Oregon’s Clackamas Town Center at the height of Christmas season on Tuesday, a masked gunman entered the mall and began firing dozens of shots into the crowds.

The crowds panicked, the mall Santa was shot, and shoppers ran into nearby stores, crouching and waiting out the massacre. Initial 9-1-1 calls indicated that shoppers believed there were multiple assailants. But it wasn’t until hours after two people were killed, a 15-year-old girl remains in critical condition and dozens others were injured, that officials pinpointed a single gunman, who died at the scene of a self-inflicted wound.

Police have not released the identity of the gunman or those he killed, but witnesses have detailed the gunman’s look and actions before he opened fire:

According to police, the gunman, wearing a “Jason”-style hockey mask, entered the mall through Macy’s department store around 3:25 p.m. The man, who may have been wearing body armor and black or camouflage clothing, hurried past a Salvation Army bell-ringer posted at the door.

Fourteen-year-old Hannah Baggs, leaving the mall, looked directly at the gunman just moments before he entered and opened fire.

“He was, like, 10 feet away from us, wearing a white mask and carrying something heavy with both hands,” said Hannah, a freshman at LaSalle High School. “He went running into the store. I was scared, but I didn’t tell my mom because I didn’t want to get her upset.”

In a flash, the sound of gunshots rang out and mall personnel rushed out the door, urging shoppers to leave.

Reports say that witnesses heard over 60 shots ring out in the mall, and saw the gunman jogging through Macy’s after entering the mall. Authorities believe the gunman to be in his early 20s, but they are not releasing any additional information until this is confirmed. The mall will remained closed on Wednesday as investigators try to piece this massacre together.

As always, we’re saddened by this mass shooting. We’ll keep Portland in our prayers.
