CEO of Cape Canaveral Port Authority John Walsh spoke to WFTV and issued the following apology:

‘It’s something that we’d never want the Port Authority to be involved in and we truly apologize to the families for the pain that they even had to hear about something like this and had to relive their son’s death again.’ 

SMH!

A spokesperson for the Port Canaveral Police Department says Sgt. Ron King was terminated after allegations from witnesses claim that he used an image of Trayvon Martin as a target for gun practice.

DETAILS: It’s “Disingenuous & Disrespectful!” Trayvon Martin’s Family Responds To Gladys Zimmerman’s Letter 

According to WFTV:

Port officials said King brought two shooting targets which had an image Trayvon Martin on them to a firearms training session on April 4.

King was supervising the training session and asked if anyone wanted to use them. Officials will not say if the targets were actually used.

In an email discussing the termination, Spokesperson Rosalind Harvey called such behavior unaceptable and said it wouild not be tolerated.

Trayvon Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump, released a statement regarding the alleged incident:

“It is very hurtful to Trayvon’s parents to have the image of their dead child used as target practice by the Port Canaveral Police.”

Officials say King had been employed with the Port Canaveral Police Department since January of 2011 and purchased the targets on the internet.

Sickening!
