In response, the president personally called her family to send his condolences.

According to NBC Chicago:

President Barack Obama called the parents of a 15-year-old Chicago girl who was gunned down this week at a South Side park, the family's pastor confirmed.

Rev. Courtney Maxwell of Greater Deliverance Temple said Obama made the call earlier this week.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced and despite a petition asking Obama to attend the girl's funeral, Maxwell said there is no word on a response.
