It was pure comedy last night at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner, where President Obama and Governor Romney laid on the jokes, poking fun at one another in a campaign roast!

“I was actually hoping the President would bring Joe Biden along this evening because he’ll laugh at anything!” belted the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, at the ritzy affair held in midtown Manhattan. The benefit event is held every four years and allows the presidential candidates to take a break and crack jokes on one another at the Catholic Archdiocese of New York’s annual charity dinner.

In a playful and charismatic tone, the usually robotic Romney started the roast session, making fun of his elitist image, but more so making wisecracks on Obama’s first term as president.

“A campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes — blue jeans in the morning, perhaps, suits for a lunch fundraiser, sport coat for dinner — but it’s nice to finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house,” Romney said.

Romney joked, “Of course, we’re down to the final months of the president’s term. As President Obama surveys the Waldorf banquet room with everybody in white tie and finery you have to wonder what he’s thinking: ‘So little time, so much to redistribute.’”

Afterward, Obama took jabs at Romney, as well as himself, poking fun at his lackluster performance at the first presidential debate. He even mentioned his endorsement from Honey Boo Boo!

“This is the third time that Governor Romney and I have met recently. Some of you may have noticed, I had a lot more energy in our second debate. I felt really well rested after the nice long nap I had in the first debate.”

This roast was hilarious and shows that Obama and Romney both have a great sense of humor.
