President Obama has stated his support of Israel in its Government's operations in Gaza where it is being threatened for being attacked with missiles.
In a joint conference in Thailand with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Obama said that he believes Israel should be able to defend itself.
He told the press:
"There's no country on earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders. We are fully supportive of Israel's right to defend itself."
Obama says that he thinks the missile attacks were a "precipitating event" for Israel's operation, stating:
"We are actively working with all the parties in the region to see if we can end those missiles being fired without further escalation of violence in the region."
He also echoed Israeli leaders, telling the press that he believes reaching peace begins "with no more missiles being fired into Israel's territory."
