The family of Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan–Nafis, otherwise known as the Federal Reserve “bomber,” had no idea what he was up to, according to new developments.

According to the Associated Press:

"My son couldn't have done it," his father, Quazi Ahsanullah, said weeping.

"My brother may have been a victim of a conspiracy," said Fariel Bilkis.

Prosecutors said Nafis traveled to the U.S. on a student visa in January to carry out an attack.

"We are just collecting details about Nafis from his family," one officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

"He is very gentle and devoted to his studies," he said, pointing to Nafis' time studying at the private North South University in Dhaka.

Ahsanullah said his son convinced him to send him to America to study, arguing that with a U.S. degree he had a better chance at success in Bangladesh.

It was also reported that Nafis had an accomplice, as the FBI arrested a man in San Diego for child porn who had a connection with the would-be Federal Reserve bomber.

According to the NYPost:

Howard Willie Carter II was charged on Wednesday after officers found hundreds of explicit images of children on a hard drive dumped outside his apartment building. Around 30 home videos were also discovered by investigators.

On the hard drive an email account registered to 'Yaqueen' was found. Yaqueen was listed as a co-conspirator of alleged terrorist Nafis.

According to the complaint released yesterday, Yaqueen wanted to help in the attack.

Carter has not been slapped with terror charges, but he is "an associate of Nafis," a law-enforcement source said.

Nafis, who was held without bail, faces life in prison. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
