30-year-old medical student and activist Gelareh Bagherzadeh was shot and killed while driving through her Houston townhouse complex.
Around midnight on Sunday a bullet blasted through Gelareh's car window, killing her instantly.
According to police, Bagherzadeh returned home to her Galleria area house she shares with her parents and was on the phone with her ex-boyfriend. While driving to the opposite side of the complex, she was shot through her car window and then crashed into a garage.
Richard Bolton, a Houston Police Department homicide detective told ABC News:
"According to family and the people we have talked to so far, she has no enemies. She was a very caring, loving person."
Gelareh was known in the community as an active participant in promoting rights for Iranian women. Today, her family is expected to speak publicly in hopes of convincing anyone with information on this homicide to come forward.
Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
