It’s hard to believe that it’s been six months since Adam Lanza forced his way into Sandy Hook Elementary and massacred 20 children and six staffers, but the pain and sorrow of the mass shooting is still with us.
And since the Dec. 14, 2012 tragedy, 33 people have been murdered every day by guns in America. That brings us to a whopping total of 4,500 deaths by guns since late last year – and Congress has done little to curb the senseless gun violence.
To mark the passage of six months since the massacre, the town of Newtown held a moment of silence to honor the victims.
The sisters of slain teacher Victoria Soto asked for a 26-second moment of silence at the ceremony Friday to honor the 20 children and six adults killed at the school.
But in addition, names of the thousands of victims of gun violence will also be read at a remembrance event in Washington, D.C.
It’s expected to take at least 12 hours.
Today, GlobalGrind remembers the tragedy with hearts full and we call on our government to honor those lives lost by gun violence…and to finally do something about it.
