Troy Davis was denied a stay of execution by the Georgia board of pardons today.

The 411 On Death Row Inmate Troy Davis

Troy’s fate was in the hands of the Georgia pardons board, who announced today that they have denied clemency to the death row inmate who was convicted 20 years ago of the killing of off duty police officer Mark MacPhail.

As Reported By The Associated Press:

Two defense lawyers say Georgia’s board of pardons has rejected a bid to spare the life of Troy Davis, who has attracted high-profile support for his claim that he was wrongly convicted of killing a police officer in 1989.

Steve Hayes, spokesman for the Board of Pardons and Paroles, said Tuesday the panel decided to rejected Davis’ request for clemency after hearing hours of testimony from his supporters and prosecutors.

Georgia’s pardon board will not grant clemency to Troy Davis and this will surely spark further debate regarding the morality of capital punishment in the United States.
